Medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) are fats that are naturally found in coconut and palm kernel oil. They are digested more quickly and easily than other fats. MCTs are absorbed directly in the digestive system shortly after ingestion and are rapidly metabolized in the liver. According to research, they promote the use of fats as an energy source, rather than being stored in fat tissues. Some studies suggest that replacing regular fats, sources of long-chain triglycerides, with medium-chain triglycerides as part of a balanced diet combined with physical activity can have a favorable effect on weight control and body composition. Therefore, MCT oils are often used in ketogenic diets or keto diets.
